The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly arrived in Dubai on Wednesday to plan the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. After 29 games, the 14th edition of the cash-rich league was suspended on May 4, and the balance of the season will be played in the Gulf nation beginning in the third week of September. On Instagram, the former Indian captain announced his arrival in the UAE by posting a pic of himself in Dubai. Dubai Sets Sourav Ganguly free from lockdowns as he arrives to plan phase 2 of IPL
According to reports, BCCI officials arrived in Dubai on a chartered jet on Monday to meet with UAE cricket board office-bearers to discuss the second phase of the IPL 2021. Ganguly, on the other hand, stayed in India to attend the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) virtual board meeting on Tuesday, when he requested a one-month extension. The international body’s final decision on this will be made later this month.
On May 29th, BCCI has officially stated that the second phase of the IPL will resume in September-October, with the UAE as the host. The board further stated that the decision to change the main event to another country was made after taking into account India’s monsoon season during those months.
IPL 2021 will be held in the same previous season venues: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
