Dravid Shouldn’t Be The Permanent Head Coach For Team India: Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer appears to have a unique view of the situation. Many former cricketers and analysts believe that India’s forthcoming limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka will be a major step for Rahul Dravid to become the full-time head coach for Team India, however, Jaffer believes that Dravid should not strive for it. let’s look at Why Dravid Shouldn’t Be The Permanent Head Coach For Team India

As the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, Jaffer believes Dravid should continue to develop new players and strengthen India’s bench.

“He is going as a coach of this Indian team to Sri Lanka. I’m sure those youngsters will benefit a lot. I personally feel that he shouldn’t push to become the coach of the national team. I feel that he needs to work with these India u-19 players and India A players at the NCA. I think the international players who play in the Indian team are a finished product,” said Jaffer.

Whereas the regular captain, Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri, are currently in England preparing for the five-match Test series, Dravid has been named coach of the Shikhar Dhawan-led second Indian side for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka. For the very first time, the BCCI has chosen to set up 2-Indian teams to play simultaneously in Sri Lanka and England.

According to Jaffer, Dravid’s advice will be more useful to those coming up through the ranks. The former opener believes that the players who currently represent India are almost done with their preparations and that Dravid is more needed to coach the youngsters.

Why Dravid Shouldn’t Be The Permanent Head Coach For Team India

“But Rahul Dravid’s mentorship and guidance are more needed at the U-19 and India A level. His guidance is crucial for them to achieve the next level. So I think he needs to stay at the NCA for a longer period of time for our bench strength so that it keeps growing stronger,” Jaffer said.

Before becoming the NCA’s head coach, Dravid was the coach of the Indian A and India U19 teams.

“The amount of good players that are coming, the credit definitely goes to the BCCI, the way they have developed the infrastructure and pathway. India now has a strong supply line. Even more, credit goes to Rahul Dravid, the way he is working as head coach at the NCA and the way he guiding U-19 players, India A and fringe players. There can’t be a better role model or better mentor than Rahul Dravid,” he added.

India will face Sri Lanka with 3- ODIs and 3-T20Is which are held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
