Dominic Sibley Helps England Draw A Match Against New Zealand
Gabba has taken our hopes up with Rishabh Pant’s classic chase but it was completely different at Lord’s. England opted for a safety-first approach led by Dom Sibley’s unbeaten 60 from 207 balls. England had reached 170-3 when a draw was agreed with five overs remaining.
Post afternoon session, there was not enough life in the pitch left nor a swing to favour kiwis for taking wickets. Dominic Sibley managed to bat for more than five hours facing 207 deliveries, showing some character. Joe Root on the other hand scored a steady 40 runs knock. Both batsmen batted till evening session which helped England with the result of a draw. Even if there was no great final-day drama, the crowd were nevertheless keen to get in on the act.
“We set out to lay a foundation. It would have been very easy to go too early today. It was a tricky wicket with a bit of up-and-down bounce, and we didn’t have the time we needed to go after that target.” Asked if he was wary because of the inexperience in the camp, he says, “More so the conditions, I think the talent’s there in the dressing-room… We had to be more disciplined, we made it harder for them to get us out, we were resilient.” Joe Root said in the post-match presentation.
We exactly don’t know what’s in Kane Williamson’s mind as this a friendly match and he decided to declare a bit earlier. This friendly match can help Williamson test all their players ability going forward to WTC finals in 10 days. 2nd Test match is scheduled at Birmingham which starts from 10th June, 2021.
