David Decides To Retire From Test Cricket, He Won’t Play BBL: Candice Warner

Once the ‘Sandpaper Gate’ allegations surfaced, Cricket Australia (CA) restricted then-captain Steve Smith from stepping in any leadership position for two years and also banned then-vice-captain, David Warner, from stepping on in a leadership role for the rest of his career. Here is why David Warner Decides To Retire From Test Cricket.

Smith has also been promoted to vice-captain of the Australian team before the 2021 Ashes series versus England. Former cricket icon Shane Warne has also shared his opinion on the subject.

Warne disputed how the skipper of Australia at the time of the Sandpaper Gate affair, Steve Smith, could be handed a leadership role while David Warner was refused. According to the leg-spin bowling specialist, Warner has perhaps the greatest intellect on the Australian team.

“With Sandpapergate back in South Africa a few years ago, how can the captain be allowed to take up another leadership role where a player like David Warner, who’s probably got the best cricket brain in the team, isn’t allowed to? If you’re going to ban a player but allow the captain to have another chance, it doesn’t make sense to me,” said Warne.

‘Really Disappointing’ for the Australian fans and anyone who loves T20 cricket: Candice Warner

Furthermore, David Warner’s wife, Candice Warner, has stated that her husband may never feature in the Big Bash League (BBL) anymore, which would upset many kids who enjoy T20 cricket.

“It is disappointing because at this stage when David decides to retire from Test cricket, he won’t play Big Bash. And that’s really disappointing for the Australian fans and kids and anyone who loves T20 cricket – the fact that David Warner will never play Big Bash again,” said Candice Warner.

Candice also mentioned that the BBL is a long tournament, and Warner might then compete in several shorter formats in Dubai in January before celebrating Christmas with his family.

“You also have to consider that there’s so many leagues around the world that are shorter than the Big Bash. The Big Bash is a very long tournament. There are tournaments in Dubai in January that may be a better option with the family. David can still be with us Christmas and fly to Dubai early January for a shorter period of time,” concluded Candice Warner.
