Cricket Fraternity Mourns Rajinder Goel’s Demise

Former Indian skipper and BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, the whole Indian cricketing fraternity mourned the demise of Rajinder Goel, who is contemplated as “giant of domestic cricket”.

Sachin Tendulkar quoted on Twitter “I feel very much sad by hearing the passing away news of Rajinder Goel ji! He was truly the strength of the domestic cricket of India. He picked up 600 over wickets in the Ranji Trophy. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to his family and friends.”

Sourav Ganguly wrote “The whole community of Indian cricket has lost a precious domestic cricket giant today. His outstanding record signifies his craft as well as his control over it”.

He also added “To pursue a 25 years long career and still capable to perform constantly tells about his commitment and dedication towards cricket. To claim 750 wickets requires many years of hard work. I salute to his immeasurable efforts. I give my condolences to his loved and dear ones.”

Rajinder Goel was 77 years old and he passed away because of some age-related health problems on Sunday (21-06-2020).

Ashwin tweeted “Rajinder Goel, the highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy cricket was passed away. From childhood, I heard about him “what a terrific left-arm spinner Rajinder Goel was”. Although I have not seen you, bowl sir, you have left a legacy that will last forever. RIP Rajinder Goel,”

Rajinder Goel was a left-arm spinner and played nearly 157 numbers of first-class matches, in which maximum matches were for Haryana, and ended with 750 wickets. He also had a record of holding maximum wickets in Ranji Trophy as he claimed 637, 107 more than S Venkataraghavan, the second person of claiming maximum wickets.

VVS Laxman also tweeted and expressed his heartfelt condolence for the demise of Rajinder Goel.

Indian team opener Shikhar Dhawan tweeted “RIP Rajinder Goel Sir. My prayers and thoughts with the family,”

BCCI secretary Jay Shah spoke about his long period in first-class cricket.

“His longevity should encourage the newcomers to do excel and grow each and every time they get the opportunity.In the year 2017, BCCI honored him with Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.”
