Cricket Australia Hopes World Cup Will Happen As Planned

Cricket Australia is hoping that normalcy would return in the field of sports where the coronavirus has wreaked havoc, and it would be able to hold the ICC T20 as planned between October 18th and November 15th.

Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Kevin Roberts wished that the final at the iconic MCG (Melbourne Cricket Grounds) will have a capacity crowd and send an inspiring message to the world.

He expressed that all forms of sports can be played again in a few days or weeks time. He quoted, “None of us are experts in this situation obviously, so our hope is that we’re back in very much normal circumstances come October and November when the men’s T20 World Cup is to be played.”

He also added, “And at this stage we’re planning on November 15, to have a full house at the MCG to inspire the world through men’s cricket as the women’s cricketers did here just last week.”

Major Cricketing Events Disrupted

All the sporting events were dealt a huge blow as a result of the coronavirus outbreak which has caused global health scare. Many major tournaments were affected by the pandemic where they were either called off or postponed or played without spectators.

The biggest cricket event of every year IPL is facing doubts if it would be held or dropped. The tournament which was supposed to begin has been delayed until April. The BCCI has informed it would take the final call over conducting the event only after examining the situation in the coming weeks.

In the same way, the ODI series between India vs South Africa where the two teams were supposed to play 3 matches has been postponed.

Other tournaments that suffered similar fate were England tour of Sri Lanka which has been deferred, PSL semis and finals are postponed indefinitely even though a few of the league matches were played in empty stadiums whereas the 3 match ODI series between Australia and New Zealand was also abandoned.

Cricket Australia has also canceled its premier domestic tournament Sheffield Shield midway and declared New South Wales winners.
