Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, had already approved the team’s proposal allowing Shaw and Suryakumar to represent the Indian team in England for the five-match Test series. Only after the pair were isolated as close contacts of Krunal Pandya in Colombo before the 2nd T20I in the Island Nation, there were questions over whether there would be a changing of approach.
According to the source, board officials addressed the matter after Suryakumar and Shaw were isolated prior to the 2nd T20I versus Sri Lanka, however, the board secretary supported captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri’s decision to send the two to England for the Test series.
Washington Sundar, Avesh Khan, and Shubman Gill are out of the series owing to injuries
The BCCI announced on 26th July that the All-India Senior Selection Committee has chosen Suryakumar and Prithvi as substitutes for the forthcoming Test series versus England, due to injuries to all-rounder Washington Sundar, bowler Avesh Khan, and batsman Shubman Gill.
According to the statement, Sundar had an injection on his right-hand bowling finger during the three-day practice match versus County Select XI. His recovery will take longer than expected, and he is not yet bowling-ready. As a result, the bowler was benched for the remainder of the tour.
Avesh Khan, the fast bowler, was hit on the left thumb on the first day of warm-up play. An X-Ray was taken, and it indicated that he had a fracture. He was directed to a specialist for further treatment of his injury. He was also termed out of India’s scheduled tour of England.
