West Indies cricketer Carlos Brathwaite who created a huge sensation by walloping four consecutive sixes in the last over to steer his team to win the T20 world cup in 2016 said on Sunday that his best memory in India will always be the admiration he received days after he pulled off this feat.
I Was Mobbed By People: Brathwaite
At the time the all-rounder said he felt like West Indies destructive batsman Chris Gayle in India.
Brathwaite said these words while discussing his dog with a Delhi based pet channel on Instagram.
He said that in India cricket is like religion and when he arrived in India after the 2016 world cup he was mobbed by people like Chris Gayle.
“Cricket is a religion in India. I remember I was filming Chris (Gayle) being mobbed at the airport. But after the World Cup when I came to play for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), the same thing was happening to me,” he said.
West Indies who were supposed to chase a target of 156 runs were struggling when at one moment the score was 11/3.
However, the innings was rebuilt by both Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Bravo. The team needed 19 runs in the final over to win.
The match was in a position in such a way that the result could go in anyone’s way. But Brathwaite who was on the strike took away the match from England by hitting 4 sixes in a row.
“Bangalore Is My Favourite Place For Partying”
The 32-year-old who played for Delhi Daredevils for two years in 2016-17 said he does not like Delhi pollution.
“I played for Delhi Daredevils two years…the pollution just gets me. When I was there they had odd and even (car numbers) rule too,” he said.
He also said while Bengaluru is his favorite city for partying in India, Kolkata will always be special and he and his wife like Mumbai too.
