Brett Lee Shocked After SRH Axed David Warner From Captaincy And Playing XI

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday announced that Kane Williamson would take over the role of SRH captain from David Warner for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

David Warner removal from the role of captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side has shocked many in the cricketing world after successfully carrying the side for so long. Things go from bad to worse when David Warner was left out of the playing XI. Fans are in disbelief after David Warner gets dropped from the XI.

“I Am Completely Shocked”, Brett Lee After David Warner Is Dropped By Sunrisers Hyderabad

Like many, Brett Lee was in disbelief when he found out that David Warner’s name was not included in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Playing XI against Rajasthan Royals in Delhi on Sunday. Warner was axed from the team as well, with the fourth overseas player’s spot going to Mohammad Nabi.

“I’m actually shocked that Warner was not included in the XI. I know he hasn’t been playing his best form of cricket in terms of his strike rate this season but he’s always been there and there about with the Orange Cap party,” Brett Lee said during the Star Sports pre-match show.

The Fifth highest run-getter in the IPL being dropped has shocked the world. He’s the only player to win the orange cap 3 times – 2015, 2017, and 2019. Brett Lee said that the decision would not have left David Warner pleased, but all the Australia batsman can do for the time being is be a good sportsman and wait for his turn to come again.

SRH’s director of cricket Tom Moody explained that Warner not being part of the Playing XI was purely based on keeping the team balance and composition in mind, whereas coach Trevor Bayliss has hinted that Warner may be benched for the new few matches as the Sunrisers look to stick to a combination that’s delivering the desired results for them.

Kane Williamson captained the SRH side and the outcome is no different. Rajasthan Royals crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 55 runs in Delhi. Chasing a mammoth 221, Sunrisers lost wickets at regular intervals and never got going in the chase. They eventually managed 165 for 8 in their 20 overs. SRH campaign will be over if they don’t manage to win their next match of the tournament.

Questions over everyone’s mind with mega auction coming next year, will this be David Warner’s last season with Sunrisers Hyderabad?
