An IPL team has signed a sponsorship deal with a brand of the sanitary pad to challenge the entrenched taboos of the country around menstruation.
The Rajasthan Royals team, who introduced England test vice-captain Ben Stokes and bowling star Jofra Archer said that they hoped that the Niine brand sponsorship will enable the men to educate about menstruation on a grand scale.
Deep-seated societal taboo is lasting in each and every part of India around the menstruating women. In a few rural places, during their periods time of women, they are forced to sleep singly and are prohibited from entering sacred places like temples.
The Niine logo will be placed on the backside of the jerseys of players for the IPL league, which is scheduled to be held in the UAE this year from 19th September to 10th November due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement, the Rajasthan Royals said “Definitely Cricket is the most demanded sports in India and provides the exact arena to address health and initiate social transformations.”
Furthermore, the statement stated, “ The IPL team, Rajasthan Royals are hovering to be the medium that will enable to instruct people, especially men through the 13th edition of 2020 IPL by creating consciousness as well as understanding on a massive scale.”
An official of Rajasthan Royals refused to give any kind of finance-related information about the deal when approached by AFP.
