India recently played two Test Series against Australia and England which was a key to their qualification in the finals of the World Test Championship. India played 7 Test in a span of around 70 days. Ravi Shastri says about Performance India players.
Indian team kept losing key players one by one at Australia Tour. Ravindra Jadeja, Hanuma Vihari, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami suffered injuries that kept them out for a long time. To top this off, Virat Kohli left the tour after the first Test due to the birth of his first child.
Ravi Shastri Feels Youngsters Who Got Their Chance Has Performed Really Well
Young guns got their chances when regular players were injured and they haven’t disappointed Indian fans a bit. India’s new Test cricket heroes have pandemic-induced squad regulations to thank for getting their shot in the Australia and England series, coach Ravi Shastri said Sunday. Most Indian players have been in one bubble or another, with only small breaks since the Indian Premier League in September.
“You had to dig deep and pick your best 30 players. It’s a good headache to have,” Shastri told reporters.
“It has worked well, you would have never imagined the number of players that would have played for India, six months ago. If you think Natarajan would have played a Test, no way. Would Washington Sundar (have) play a Test, no way? But circumstances make it happen,” said Shastri.
“And I’m glad the youngsters who got the opportunity, have grabbed it with both hands.”
India’s new talent played a key role in helping the side reach the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in June.
We all know the partnership Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar had during the 2nd Test against Australia which helped India in the historic Test series triumph in Brisbane. Washington Sundar again played a knock of 96 runs not out against England in 4th Test. Rishabh Pant replaced Wriddhimann Saha and he is in form of his life.
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel made most of his debut within the England collection with 27 wickets in three matches after changing the injured Ravindra Jadeja. Shastri praised the new gamers for enjoying “fearless cricket”. India will now play 5 T20s and 3 ODIs against England. All our youngsters will again be seen in action starting 12th March on Friday.
