Begin Women’s IPL In Full Form From Next Year To Tap Talent: Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar Bats For Women’s IPL:

Sunil Manohar Gavaskar, the renowned cricketer, made an encouraging statement for the Women’s cricket that, it is the perfect time to take women’s cricket seriously and start Women’s Indian Premier League in a full-fledged way to tap more brilliant player.

He has given this statement after the national women’s team was defeated by Australia in the T20 World Cup final.

Gavaskar said that although the India Women’s team was defeated by 85 runs to defending champions Australia, it is showing the clear symptoms that things are heading towards the right direction.

In an interview with India Today, Gavaskar said that “there may be a lot of talents, which can’t be identified properly. So, I would like to say to BCCI and Ganguly that from the next year they should arrange for Women’s IPL also. Already we have seen that there are a lot of talents and those have come to the front with the outstanding performance in the whole tournament”.

Also, he added that “Although there are not even 8 teams, an IPL of women will contribute a lot. Women can get more exposure through this. It has no doubt that in future Indian women’s team will start winning a lot of matches and will get more trophies.”

Big Compliment For BCCI:

By complementing BCCI for managing women’s cricket, he said that “the women are already doing a lot, because of which the team has improved so much. Nearly a month ago, they went to Australia and there they played a tri-series against Australia and they played very well. They have adapted the pitches and the circumstances in Australia. So, all it can be possible because of the efforts of BCCI.”

Also, Gavaskar gave the examples of Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Women’s cricket team and Smriti Mandhana, one of the best Women’s International Cricketers, both of them got from playing the women’s Big Bash League.

About the Australian Cricket Board:

“Since a long time, the Australian Cricket Board has given importance to the Australian Women’s team. The Australian women’s domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has provided plenty of opportunities to players all over the world”. That is the tournament where you can get to play opposite the best players and able to learn a lot of things.” Gavaskar said.

“The Women’s IPL match would certainly help them to get more players just like the Indian Men’s IPL.”
