Before IPL, Team India Camp Looks Doubtful

Prior to IPL, Indian cricketers are unlikely to have a national camp:

Before the Indian Premier League, the leading Indian players are unlikely to have a national camp, which is scheduled to be held at Motera concerning their health as well as safety amid an increasing number of COVID-19 cases throughout the country.

There is a high probability that the centrally contracted players like Hanuman Vihari and Cheteshwar Pujara will join their respective IPL squads’ training camps from the beginning in Dubai.

While the Apex Council of BCCI had deferred the conditioning camp at Motera Stadium, the GCA (Gujrat Cricket Association) is yet to receive any formal intimation letter from the BCCI.

A GCA official told PTI that “Thre were certain reports from media that the camp will begin from 18th August and continue toll 4th September but we have not received any formal intimation letter from the BCCI till now.”

It is learned that discussions are going on the issue that cricketers traveling different cities-starting from their homes to Ahemdabad and after completion of the camp then Dubai- can get into more health and safety risks in this situation and it is suitable that now the camp is putting on hold.

A senior IPL franchise official said, “It can’t be understood how a red ball camp before playing IPL would be beneficial when the red-ball format is a completely different format than IPL format.”

It might be good that a big Indian team might begin their training after IPL once the team reaches Australia.

The only interesting fact is whether Pujara and Vihari continue their training in their cities or whether BCCI will arrange any special session for this duo.
