BCCI Should Give Annual Contract To Domestic Cricketers Like National Team: Rohan Gavaskar

Former Indian team cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has demanded that the state associations should initiate annual contracts for domestic cricketers, as the Indian Cricket Board does for national team players.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the period from October 2020 to September 2021. As per a BCCI press release, the payment structures has been divided into four categories with Grade A+ contract earning players ₹7 crores, Grade A earning players ₹5 crores, Grade B earning players ₹3 crore, and Grade C earning players ₹1 crore for the aforementioned time period.

Rohan Gavaskar Said That Yearly Contract Should Be Given To State Players Too

Rohan tweeted, “All state associations should make an annual contract as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does for the Indian team. If the state does not have annual contracts then it will be impossible for the domestic players to get paid in such a situation.

Currently, the BCCI pays ₹35,000 per day to cricketers featuring in the playing XI of Ranji Trophy. Rohan Gavaskar stated that irrespective of whether the tournaments happen or not, players should be earning money like senior team players.

How does one determine who would have played the entire season? Could some senior players have been dropped midway? What about the youngsters who may have made their debuts? Will they not get anything? What happens to the white ball specialists? The red ball specialists?” Rohan Gavaskar wondered

Rohan Gavaskar acknowledged that domestic cricketers are the ones who hold the future of the game. He, therefore, urged state associations to look after their players and introduce annual contracts soon.

The state associations need to look after their players. The domestic players are the ones who really keep the game going. They have to be taken care of. Start annual Contracts to Domestic Cricketers ,” Rohan Gavaskar concluded.

With the amount of money BCCI is earning, Rohan Gavaskar’s suggestion could really motivate the young players in India and we could see quality from the very start of the career from players.
