BCCI Requests BCB For A Day-Night Test At Eden Gardens

On Sunday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that the BCCI had requested them to play a day-night Test during the upcoming Indian tour.

Sourav Ganguly, the newly appointed BCCI president, had recently said that skipper Virat Kohli was not averse to the idea of playing pink-ball Test cricket. The BCCI communicated the request a few days back to the BCB’s cricket operations chairman Akram Khan.

A source quotes Khan as saying, “They have proposed us and we will let them know after thinking a while. We received the letter two or three days (ago) and we will take a decision in this regard. We have not discussed about it. We will let them know about our decision within one or two days.”

Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB Chief executive, said that they wanted all stakeholders on board. He said, “At first we have to take the consent of the players and members of the team management. It is totally a technical matter [playing day-night Test from skill perspective] and we have to consider that there is preparation required to play a Test with a pink ball.”

The second Test, which will begin on November 22, at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is most likely to host the day/night Test provided the BCB agrees to it.

The tour of Bangladesh will begin with a three-match Twenty20 series starting from November 3 at New Delhi.

The first Test is scheduled to take place from November 14 at Indore.
