BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Is Hopeful To Host IPL-2022 In India

Since the COVID-19 outbreak entered the scene, international cricket has not been the same. The worldwide pandemic had put the whole globe to a halt, mandating the cancellation or postponement of numerous big cricket events and competitions. This virus has also affected Indian cricket significantly. Because of this, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) was forced to hold the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on UAE territory. We have discussed on Where Will IPL 2022 Be Held?

Whereas the 2021 T20 competition began on Indian soil, it was eventually relocated to the UAE owing to health issues. Also, the T20 World Cup in 2021 is unable to take place in India. Since the outbreak has had a significant impact on Indian cricket, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly feels the worst is gone and that future tournaments in India would not be affected.

I think we have gone past it and the worst is over. Hopefully, we can get back IPL in India next year because it’s India’s tournament and it’s a different atmosphere when it’s played in India. International cricket is on. We hosted New Zealand. We are going to South Africa. West Indies and Sri Lanka will follow. So I think the worst is over,” said Ganguly.

“We have succeeded in completing the IPL in spite of all the Covid issues by taking it to Dubai. The sports authorities in Dubai have been exceptional. Our domestic cricket is on in full flow like it was before. Last year was a bit of a break because of the Pandemic. We have almost completed every tournament. The Ranji Trophy starts in January. The junior cricket is on. And there has been no positive cases (of Covid) so far,” he added.

When questioned about the potential implications of the new COVID-19 variation, Omicron, Ganguly stated that it did not concern him at this time. “Not yet. We will assess the condition in due course and see what happens,” he added. In relation to the national team’s calendar, India will go to South Africa for 3 Tests and as many One-Day Internationals beginning December 26.
