BCCI Decides To Hold More ICC Events In The Next Season To Extend The IPL Window- Sourav Ganguly

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) previously announced that they want to have only one ICC tournament every year, which surprised many. The Indian board was opposed to holding several ICC events throughout the year, but their clear opinion has finally been exposed. According to the most recent developments, the BCCI’s decision was just a “trade-off” to extend the timeframe for the IPL. BCCI agrees to ICC’s event plan.

BCCI agrees for more ICC event plan in the next cycle to have longer IPL window

From next year, the BCCI wants to expand the IPL window. On the other side, it was stated during ICC’s general meeting on June 1 that the organisation will expand and hold one event every year. Their decision goes against the BCCI’s principle of “less is more.” BCCI has now agreed to this trade-off in order to expand the IPL timeframe, according to reports. Because two additional clubs are expected to enter the prestigious league next year, there will be an increase in the number of matches, resulting in a longer window.

The ICC has to make I’m not in a position to talk or comment on it- Sourav Ganguly

BCCI agrees to ICC’s event plan. According to recent sources, the BCCI has received informal clearance from the ICC for its desire to add two extra teams to the IPL in 2022. According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI, CA, and ECB were previously opposed to growing ICC tournaments and bringing back the Champions Trophy, but now all three boards must shake hands with the ICC.

Sourav Ganguly even said that, like the FIFA World Cup, the ICC should adopt a “less is more” strategy. On the other hand, things are totally changed now.

“Sometimes less is more in life. So, we have got to be careful with that. And the football World Cup happens every four years and you see the madness. That’s a decision the ICC has to make I’m not in a position to talk or comment on it. As and when I get an opportunity to be a part of the discussion, I will speak,” stated BCCI president Sourav Ganguly back in 2019.
