BCB Allows Players To Use Board Facilities For Training

BCB Said Players Are Responsible For Their Own Safety:

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has agreed to allow cricketers to attend individual training sessions from next week, but has maintained that the players are responsible for their own protection as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board declined a offer from leading cricketers in the country to resume personal training at the Sher-e – Bangla National Stadium, citing health concerns.

Since mid-March, there has been no cricket practice in Bangladesh following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. While some of the other nations have been slowly getting their cricket back on track, Bangladesh has not made much progress and the BCB headquarters, which comes under the red zone in one of the worst hit areas in Dhaka, has remained locked.

Mushfiqur Rahim was one of the few cricketers who approached the BCB to start playing, but was refused permission by the board because they had not yet finished disinfecting their facilities. The procedure was carried out on 2 July and the facility is now ready for use. In the meantime, Rahim has announced that he has begun his individual training. Last week, he shared a video at Fortis Sports Club facilities located in Dhaka.

BCB recently held a meeting with 35 players and told them that they will take part in individual training at the Sher-e – Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Cricbuzz understands that only two cricketers expressed their interest in using the facility immediately when this opportunity was presented. The BCB wants more players to come forward by July 17. “We called the cricketers and asked them to use the facility before Eid,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of BCB, on Tuesday.

“What we’ve found is that most cricketers don’t want to get out of their homes. We’ve seen a few cricketers practicing here and there, and we’ve said they can use our facility as well, but they should do it with our trainer and keep our safety measures in place.

“Firstly, they will tell our cricket operations and later our cricket operations will talk to the medical committee to fix their schedule and will see how they could comply with the hygiene rules.”
