Rauf had only 1 wicket in 3 games in the earlier BBL season, with an economy rate of 11.33. The bowler has returned from representing Pakistan in the T20 WC in Oman and the UAE in 2021.
The youngster is poised to make his BBL 1st appearance against the Brisbane Heat, December 27 at The Gabba in Brisbane.
“We can’t wait to see Haris Rauf back at the Stars. His addition brings experience, energy, and quality to our fast-bowling stocks,” Stars coach David Hussey.
Haris Rauf is someone who I will always treasure as a friend: Maxwell
The Stars haven’t come off to the finest of beginning in the BBL’s current ongoing season. The Sydney Sixers, the two-time reigning champions, thrashed them by 152 runs on December 5 at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground. On Friday, December 10, they will face the Sydney Thunder at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Rauf was a standout player for Pakistan during the World Cup. In 6 matches, the bowler took 8 wickets. At the Sharjah Cricket Ground, he was also named Player of the Match versus Kane Williamson’s New Zealand.
Pakistan was eliminated from the competition despite losing to Australia in the semi-finals. Following the match in Dubai, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell shared a photo of himself exchanging national shirts with Rauf. Rauf has played in the BBL during Maxwell’s captaincy.
“I’m so proud of how far this young man has come! What he has done for the @starsbbl and Pakistan cricket has been extraordinary! He is a fine human and a great teammate, and someone who I will always treasure as a friend. You are a superstar @harisraufofficial,” Maxwell.
