As per confirmation of club on Wednesday (October 2) Alex Hales will play for Sydney Thunder in the upcoming Big Bash League. Deal of one year has been signed by the England batsman and as a second overseas player and will join Chris Morris for the side.
During the conversation with Alex Hales, said: “ I can’t wait to return to the Big Bash”. He also added, “ It’s such a hugely respected tournament around the world. The standard of cricket is amazing and any chance you get to visit Australia and play over there is amazing, so I’m really looking forward to it.
“ Sydney Thunder is the full package. Sydney is one of the best cities in the world, getting the chance to work with Shane Bond – who is a highly respected coach – and it’s a young club, so hopefully, I can be part of building a successful family there. As an opener, you want to be one of the leading run-scorers, so that’s definitely one of my aims.”
In T20 Hales had exceptional blast and his score was 418 runs in 12 games with a strike rate of 140.26. Understandably, Shane Bond, the coach was elated to have the England batsman in the mix. “Alex Hales is the one of the best T20 battlers in the world. Shane Bond said, to have someone like Hales quality available in him for the whole tournament is a great pick up”. He added “I spent a little bit of time with him at the Mumbai Indians and came up against him when I coached New Zealand and he smacked us a number of times.
“He is an outstanding fielder and he is obviously a highly experienced player. He is extremely respected at his position and with their youthful players does an excellent job. Alex has performed in leagues around the globe and is an excellent batsman in this format with players like Sangha, Gilkes, and Davies to have someone who has been there and achieved that. It’s ideal to have someone like him to learn.”
