Barbados Tridents Defeat Trinbago Knight Riders And Make It To The Final Of CPL 2019

All-round performances of Ashley Nurse and Raymon Reifer helped Barbados Tridents beat the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders. They will now face Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League finals on Saturday.

After being put in to bat, Barbados Tridents scored 160 for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. While Johnson Charles top-scored with 35, both Raymon Reifer and Ashley Nurse chipped in with 24 each.

Chasing the target, Trinbago Knight Riders managed 144 in 19.3 overs, losing all their ten wickets. Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Harry Gurney, and Hayden Walsh picked up two wickets each.

Tridents did not get off to a great start, after losing Alex Hales for 10 of 11 balls with their side’s score on 27. But, Shakib Al Hasan and Johnson Charles took their side past 50 as the pair stitched a partnership of 24 runs for the second wicket.

After the loss of Charles, JP Duminy scored 10 before retiring hurt and put on an unbeaten partnership of 23 runs At one stage, Tridents were faltering at 92-5 as both Jason Holder and Jonathan Carter failed to make substantial contributions with the bat.

The Trinidad side, in their reply, got off to a terrible start when they lost both their openers, Sunil Narine and Lendl Simmons, at 19-2. Colin Munro and Dinesh Ramdin, however, came to their side’s rescue with a 35-run partnership, taking the side to 54 before Munro got dismissed at 16. With Darren Bravo getting dismissed only for two, the side was reduced to 81-5.

Seekugge Prassana almost bailed Knight Riders out as he scored a fighting 51 off just 21 balls. His knock was laced with six sixes and four boundaries. He along with skipper Kieron Pollard, who scored 23, put on a 39-run partnership, but to no avail.
