BAN vs AUS: Wade To Succeed Finch As Captain For T20I Series

Matthew Wade has been picked Australia’s captain for the T20I series versus Bangladesh, which will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur between August 3 to August 9. Following a worsened knee injury in Australia’s last T20I against the West Indies last month, Aaron Finch was released from the bio-secure bubble. The three-match ODI series that followed saw Finch stay out. lets look at Australia’s Captain For The T20I Series.

Australia’s Captain For The T20I Series

Finch could have surgery on his right knee and is racing against the clock to be ready for the T20 World Cup in the UAE later this year. In Finch’s unavailability, Alex Carey led the ODI series in the Windies, while Pat Cummins was retained as vice-captain. Australia’s last T20Is before the major tournament in the UAE might be played in Bangladesh.

When Finch missed a game versus India in 2020, Wade became the 11th player to captain Australia. Last year, he has also overtaken Carey as Australia’s first-choice keeper in T20Is. Carey could play in Bangladesh, but after David Warner as well as Glenn Maxwell returned, he is likely to lose his spot.

I’m happy to take the reins from Finchy: Matthew Wade

Wade has led the Hobart Hurricanes, Victoria, Tasmania, and Victoria in the Big Bash League. He is looking forward to the task of captaining Australia

“As I’ve said previously, we’ve got a really experienced group and I’m happy to take the reins from Finchy … At my age it doesn’t worry me too much,” Wade was said in an Interaction last month.

As in West Indies, Australia had a poor result, losing the T20I series 4-1. They used a 7-4 approach, with 4 specialist bowlers and a large number of all-rounders.

The other players, with the exception of Mitchell Marsh, have shown no consistency. After a disappointing showing in the Caribbean, Wade and company will be eager to get back on track.
