Who Was Appointed As Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman

“Former ACB Chairman Azizullah Fazli has been re-appointed ACB Chairman. He will oversee ACB’s leadership and course of action for the upcoming competitions,” Afghanistan Cricket Board said.

The shift came despite the significant disaster in Afghanistan, which has now been struck by violence from the Islamic terrorist group Taliban, which has seized over several regions of the country, casting question on the destiny of Afghan cricket.

It can be said that cricket flourished during the Taliban era: Shinwari

Yet, ACB president Hamid Shinwari claimed that the Taliban enjoys cricket and that there will be no interruptions to the nation’s cricket. “Taliban loves cricket. They have supported us since the beginning. They did not interfere in our activities. I don’t see any interference and expect support so that our cricket can move forward. We have got an active chairman. I remain CEO until further notice,” Shinwari said in an Interaction.

“It can be said that cricket flourished during the Taliban era. It is also a fact that many of our players practiced in Peshawar, and they made the sport mainstream in Afghanistan,” he added.

Shinwari does, though, voice worries about the future of women’s cricket in the nation previously this week. “I think it will be stopped – that is my assumption. I don’t know what the position in the future will be. We have kept the salaries and they are on our payroll. If the government decides that we don’t go with the national women’s team, we will have to stop it.”

Between September 1 to 5, Afghanistan will face Pakistan in a three-match One-Day International series in Sri Lanka. The series was originally planned to take place in the UAE, however, due to the UAE hosting the 2nd leg of the Indian Premier League, it was forced to be relocated to Sri Lanka.

The episode is now in trouble because of the island nation’s increasing Covid-19 issue, which has officially declared a 10-day national lockdown.
