AUS vs WI: Finch Doubts For ODI Series With Knee Injury

On their current West Indies tour, Australia’s captain Aaron Finch has irritated by his knee injury, putting the team in difficulty. On Saturday, the visitors lost the fifth and final T20I, dropping to 1-4 in the series. Finch injured his knee throughout the game, which he was previously treating, and subsequently seemed to be in pain when batting. Let’s look at Why Aaron Finch Doubts For AUS vs WI ODI Series.

Aaron Finch Doubts For AUS vs WI ODI Series

The three-match One-Day International series involving Australia and the West Indies will begin on July 20, with all 3 matches taking place in Barbados. With Finch out due to a knee injury, Australia must now choose a new captain, as nominated vice-captain Pat Cummins has not visited the Windies.

Matthew Wade, the tour’s T20I vice-captain, acknowledged that he had no clue if the term will be carried over to the ODIs as well. From September 2017, he hasn’t played a single 50-over match for Australia.

“It’s a bit of a moving thing, the vice-captaincy. Going forward in the one-dayers I have no idea what will happen there. I am probably not expecting to play, especially if Finchy plays, but if he doesn’t there might be an opportunity for me to play.”

“I came over here thinking I would play the T20s and I wouldn’t play the ODIs. I think some of the younger guys would get some opportunities to play them which is fair enough, I’ve been around a long time now. But if Finchy doesn’t come up there might be an opportunity to play, so we’ll wait and see,” Wade said while speaking press after the fifth T20I.

Matthew Wade Is Ready To Take Over The Captaincy

Although it is still unclear whether Aaron Finch will miss the ODI series, Matthew Wade is willing to step in if necessary. Last season, he took over the lead against India in one of the T20Is at home. Moises Henriques is another seasoned performer who has led a team at the national level.

“I love to captain whenever I get an opportunity. I captained in the T20s (against India last summer), and we’ve got plenty of different leaders here. Moises is a really good leader, Adam Zampa is getting better and better, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood go about their thing”.

“Captaining is pretty easy at this level with those experienced guys around so if I got the opportunity I’d jump at it,” Wade, who has played 94 ODIs, concluded.
