AUS vs IND: India Lodge Racial Abuse Complaint

India’s tour of Australia seems to be getting harder with every passing day. If the on field battles weren’t enough for the jaded Indian team, there has been a lot of mental stuff going off-field too. Prior to the 3rd Test in Sydney there were reports about how the Indian team is not willing to travel to Brisbane for the 4th Test if there is a hard quarantine there. The Australian media and players wasted no time in coming hard on Indian players asking them not to travel to Australia if they cannot follow rules. But with other citizens in the country leading a normal life, the Indian team management found it puzzling that why then they be treated differently? The pieces of the puzzle were yet to be formed and a new storm has arrived for the Indian team.

The Indian team has lodged a racism complaint against Australian spectators:

Day 3 of the 3rd Test match saw the Indian team surrender its advantage to Australia. India is staring at defeat at SCG and the morale of the team seems quite low. Post Stumps on Day 3, it is reported that the Indian cricket team has lodged a complaint alleging that the crowd at SCG have hurled racial abuses on fast bowling duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. It is interesting to note that only 10,000 spectators were allowed to enter the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin took the lead:

It all started at the end of the third day’s play when captain Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin spoke to the two on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson. The duo brought to their notice that two of their teammates have been subjected to abuse.

Early reports suggest that there was high voltage drama outside the Indian dressing rooms post stumps on day 3. It is learnt that ICC and stadium security officers were involved in long discussions with Bumrah, Siraj and the Indian team management. Indian officials have reportedly stated that the pair were abused by members of the public for the past two days. Notwithstanding the abuse, it is learnt that the remarks were racist in nature. Sources claim that Bumrah spoke to security officials before leaving, and so did Siraj. Even the umpires and match referee David Boon walked past India’s rooms.  Do we have another monkeygate kind of a controversy brewing here? The BCCI will stand by its players completely and will surely take this matter up with host board (Cricket Australia).
