AUS vs IND: Cheteshwar Pujara-The Unsung Hero!

Cheteshwar Pujara was one of the key architects of India’s win. India overcame all odds to register a historic series win against Australia in the 4th Test at Gabba, Brisbane. With his win, India has now won 2 consecutive series back to back in Australia. India’s historical triumph was a collective human effort where spirit overrode every emotion. Players like Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur emerged heroes out of nowhere. It was a complete team effort that saw the Indians annihilate the Aussies at their fortress, Gabba, Brisbane.

The Indian youngsters took on the Aussies:

The Aussies had set a daunting score of 328 to win for India in the 4th innings at Gabba, Brisbane. With the early wicket of Rohit Sharma, Indian fans lost hopes of India even salvaging a draw let alone win the game. But young Shubman Gill came to the party and racked up 91 runs in a swashbuckling manner. He completely tore into Aussie pace spearhead, Mitchell Starc. Gill carted Starc for a six and two consecutive boundaries in an over. It felt like the youngster was in for a long haul when he got dismissed against the run of play.

Another youngster who set the pulse racing was Rishabh Pant. He hit the winning runs by staying unbeaten on an excellent 89. His knock ensured that India wins the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1. Pant counterattacked the Aussies in his inimitable style. But there was one batsman who contributed selflessly to India’s cause and he was none other than Cheteshwar Pujara. He took blows on his body, he suffered knocks on his knuckles. He bore brunt of the Aussie assault on his head when he was ready to take the bouncers with his body.

Pujara’s unbelievable vigil at the crease:

Pujara kept his body on the line for the sake of the team and patiently held up one end allowing the likes of Gill, Pant, and Ajinkya Rahane to play the aggressor’s role. Cheteshwar Pujara faced up more than 211 balls to score 56. His patient vigil tired the Aussie pacers which allowed the other Indian batsmen to take advantage of. There is no special feeling than winning a Test for your country, but to the extent which Pujara went by taking blows and getting battered and bruised along the way, is something which the Indian fans will never forget. Pujara is a hero we deserve, the nation salutes him for his courage, grit, and bravery!
