Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha recently stated that Ravichandran Ashwin is the bowling captain of the Indian team. The following statement comes after R Ashwin’s exceptional stint against Australia in the first two Border Gavaskar Test matches. The 34-year-old bagged a total of 10 wickets in the four innings so far, which proved to be instrumental in India’s win at Melbourne in the second Test. Ashwin got the better of Australia’s Steve Smith twice in the two Tests. Steve Smith admitted that Ashwin has an upper-hand in the contest between those two.
IND vs AUS: Pragyan Ojha hails R Ashwin
Ashwin is one of the players who came up with the goods for India during the clutch situation against Australia. The Australian batsmen tried to play safe against Ashwin’s lethal bowling attack. Pragyan Ojha believes that Ashwin is the leader of the bowling unit and that the spinner is motivated to do well for his team.
“A guy who has picked up almost 375 Test wickets, so I think, he should be a good planner. But the only difference I see is, mentally he is there. He thinks that it’s him who has to do well for his team and he is the leader of the bowling unit,” Ojha told Sports Today. “He is not worried about the alien conditions. Normally, when you are traveling to Australia as a rookie, you don’t know how the wickets are going to be or the Kookaburra ball is going to help you. Ashwin has gone past all these and he knows whatever the situation is, he will deliver,” he added.
IND vs AUS: Indians set their eye upon the Sydney Test
India went on par with the mighty Australians with a dominating win in the second Test. Despite a humiliating loss in the first Test at Adelaide, the Indians picked themselves up with grace at Melbourne. The Men in Blue displayed a solid performance against the Baggy Greens without the likes of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami. India’s stand-in captain, Ajinkya Rahane scored a poised century while carrying his side home in the second Test. Australia will host India in Sydney on January 7, 2021, for their 3rd Test in the “Border Gavaskar” series.
