Asghar Receives Guard Of Honour In His Farewell Game vs Namibia

Afghanistan player Asghar Afghan announced his retirement from international cricket in the midst of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Fans were shocked when he announced that he will not be participating in the T20 World Cup tournaments following the encounter versus India. When Afghan was called up for a game versus Namibia, spectators greeted him when he was withdrawn, and he received a guard of honor from the team.

Afghanistan is yet to face New Zealand and India, and Afghan players will not be participating in those matches. In his final game, fans showed him the highest respect by applauding him. On the other side, his country’s players wished him farewell in the finest possible way. It should be highlighted that Afghan has led his side in 115 matches, scoring nearly 4000 runs.

In terms of his career, he played in 6 Tests, 114 ODIs, and 76 T20Is before giving it up. In terms of his achievements as a captain, he led his country in their first Test versus India in 2018. Afghan led his team to win in 34 of 59 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) as captain, whereas he won 42 of 52 T20Is as captain.

His record is notable in that he surpassed MS Dhoni in terms of most T20I wins as a skipper when they conquered Zimbabwe previously this year in March. Even in his final game of the T20 World Cup 2021, he hit a key 31-run smash off 23 balls as they achieved a good total of 165 runs.

So far, Pakistan is dominating Group 2 in the T20 World Cup 2021, whereas Afghanistan is in 2nd place. It remains to be seen whether they will proceed against New Zealand and India. However, 2 teams from each group will compete for a spot in the playoffs, and Pakistan has won all 3 of its matches thus far.
