Arrival Of West Indies In England An Advancement For Cricket

When the team of West Indies national cricket team arrives in England for a Test series on Tuesday (09-06-2020), it seems that the international cricket will get back soon after the coronavirus shutdown.

The England team captain Joe Root said regarding the tour “ Obviously, it is scary but according to me, the whole cricket world will be grateful to see at least some cricket again”.

In the month of June, the three-match tournament was decided to be played but will begin on 8th July because of the pandemic.

Now there is continuous series that will be held behind the closed doors at the more biosecure Old  Trafford and Ages Bowl rather than matches before audiences at the Edgbaston, Lord’s, and at The Oval.

Whereas usually, cricketers spend their evenings at the time of Test away from the field, now they will prepare themselves in a very proactive way at the two venues which both the venues have onsite hotels.

Ages Bowl of Hampshire will carry out the Test series from 8th July with the next two Test matches at Old Trafford.

Some health measures along with a ban on applying sweat or saliva on the ball set to be decided at the ICC meeting on Wednesday (10-06-2020), and virus testing will be taken place.

Event director of England and Wales Cricket Board, Steve Elworthy said “Our main aim is to provide a safe atmosphere for all stakeholders.”

But there is no other way to escape from the financial impact of the virus.

Going ahead with the important games is seen as important, with the ECB estimating it could lose £252 million ($316 million) in case there are no fixtures at all in this summer.

Now we can say that one of the poorest teams in West Indies is helping one of its richest, with former captain of England David Gower saying that the West Indies team had done them a great favor at this time when the coronavirus had topped 40,000 death toll in Britain.
