Apex Council of DDCA Removes Ombudsman Justice Deepak Verma

DDCA replaced Badar Durrez Ahmed:

On Sunday (14-09-2020), in the Apex Council meeting, the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association eliminated Retd Justice Deepak Verma from the position of ombudsman and replaced Retd Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed.

The decision is taken because Justice Deepak Verma is Ombudsman of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) also and the officials felt that it will be difficult to handle the same positions in two different states for a single person.

All of the 11 officials of the council, along with the three govt nominees attended that meeting where replacing Justice Ahmed as Ombudsman was decided unanimously.

An apex council member stated  “ Replacing Ombudsman was unanimous. All the decisions were random without any discussion with the council members. Legal fees were associated with it and it is running into crores amount and  the salary of supporting staff was not also given.”

He added “In the place of Justice Ahmed, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed is placed by us. And he has provided his consent also. At the next AGM, the decision will be rectified.”

From different sources, it was learned that DDCA appointed Saurabh Chaddha as its legal counsel.

However, all these changes will not stay for a longer period of time as DDCA has to go for elections by 30th October, and changing in administration will mean new policy decisions.

Support Staff problem:

Maximum supporting staff related to a number of Delhi teams (women, men, age group) have ultimately paid 50% of their contract amounts including the former coach of the Ranji team, KP Bhaskar.

A senior council member said “the original contract amount of Bhaskar of worth Rs 30 lakh was given the team qualified for the knock-out levels. Since under his coaching, Delhi couldn’t qualify the knock-out stage, according to the agreement, he had to pay Rs. 24 lakh. 12 lakh has been paid already out of 24 lakh. In the next several weeks, we hope the clear all remaining amount.”
