Apex Council: IPL, Restored FTP, Short Domestic Calendar On 11-Point Plan

The blueprint of IPL will be the topmost agenda of BCCI’s Apex Council:

The idea to organize the IPL in this coronavirus situation will be the most important agenda of the Apex council of BCCI. On Friday (17-07-2020), the council meeting will be held virtually.

In those 11 vital points agenda is a serious discussion on the domestic cricket season. Most probably these are considering the fast-rising COVID-19 caseload in India. The 3rd point of the agenda points out on the Future Tours & Programme (FTP) of the men’s cricket side, which is consisting of three series (apart from white ball tours of Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and the home series vs England) already postponed.

The Apex Council will discuss the IPL, which postponed for an indefinite period because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now BCCI is planning to organize the tournament on the September-October window.

A senior BCCI official told PTI that “Undoubtedly, all options have to be explored. The first priority is India but we don’t know how will be the situation. Obviously, there are options of holding IPL in Sri Lanka and UAE but taking out of the Indian Premier League will increase the overloads. Recently, the BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly said that.”

Also the official said “According to me, still we are not in a position to fix any venues in this uncertain situation. But the ideas and the possible window have to be ready so that once International Cricket Council makes any declaration of T20 World Cup, which is scheduled for October-November. If it would cancel, we can go forward.”

Next Monday, the ICC Board Meeting is scheduled. In this meeting, the most important agenda is the problem of getting tax exemption certificate from the government of India to host the 2021 T20 World Cup.

The deferred white ball tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka also have to be rescheduled.

One of the major concerns of BCCI is the domestic structure of the country which includes U-23 men, senior men, junior boys (U-19 and U-16), U-23 women, senior women and U-19 girls, consisting thousands of games across all formats.

Undoubtedly, the Ranji Trophy schedule had to be squeezed. We have to discuss whether we can go for Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare, Syed Mushtaq Ali in one instance.

Another important problem will be attire sponsorship as the Nike deal has come to conclude. It is expected that the Indian Cricket Board will follow the procedure of appealing tenders from potential bidders.
