As the BCCI is continuously trying its best to make sure the Indian Premier League takes place this year. According to the PTI report, one important shareholder of IPL has given suggestions to hold the whole tournament in Mumbai.
As per the report, the BCCI was planning to host the IPL tournament in the September-October window because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but till now the ICC has not done any declaration about the fate of the T20 World Cup.
Another BCCI official said to PTI “It is at a very primary phase but in case IPL happens in India by the end of October month, and the situation of the pandemic is under control in Mumbai, four high-grade floodlit fields available in Mumbai. The BCCI logistics, handling a bio-bubble, broadcasters, everything could be handled very smoothly.”
So far, Mumbai has more than 31,000 COVID-19 cases and it is the fourth-highest affected city in India. To organize IPL in Mumbai, not only it is very much necessary to get the COVID-19 situation better in Mumbai, but also the fact is that Mumbai has only three major fields in the Brabourne Stadium, Wankhede Stadium, and DY Patil (Navi Mumbai), work as a big obstruction is the plan coming through.
As Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president had begun earlier; the board will try its best with its all energy to hold IPL in the year 2020. In case IPL needs to be held without spectators, then the BCCI will lose nearly Rs 4000 Crore.
The upcoming West-Indies and England series will mark the recommencement of cricket, with the match being held in a bio-secure atmosphere, and it is believed that in case something similar can happen in Mumbai, the cash-rich tournament can go ahead in the city.
The official said “Undoubtedly, everything depends on the situation of COVID-19 in Mumbai. But in case there is no allowance of the audience and a bio-bubble is created, then IPL can be held in Mumbai.”
