8 Insane Unknown Cricket Records

Cricketing records are a fan’s delight. The cricket-loving audience wants to see records being broken with every match. While many fans might be knowing a few popular records like Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries or Anil Kumble’s 10 wickets in an innings. There are few records though which not many might be aware of.

#8 Rahul Dravid played 43 ODI matches in a single year! (Cricket Records)

In 1999, the Indian team played a record 43 ODI matches. This included the 1999 Cricket World Cup held in England. He top-scored in World Cup with 461 runs. Rahul Dravid was part of all the 43 matches played by India in that year. To add to it, Dravid went on to keep wickets in 6 of those games. It is difficult for nations to play more than 20 ODI’s nowadays and here is India’s Mr. Dependable who went to play 43 ODI’s in a single year.

If you thought Sachin Tendulkar playing 200 Tests was a big deal then think again. Here was a cricketer by the name of Wilfred Rhodes who went on to play a massive 1110 First-class matches. Rhodes was a fine all-rounder and this makes his longevity even more shocking. He picked up 4204 wickets in the process. Rhodes debuted at the age of 21 and went to play till he was 52. This is one record that will be unbeatable for sure.

#6 Lowest ODI Economy Rate (0.3)

The current coach of West Indies, Phil Simmons has a brilliant record to his name. He managed bowling figures of 10-8-3-4 against Pakistan in Sydney on December 17, 1992. In his 10-over spell, Simmons gave away just 3 runs (Economy Rate: 0.3), bowled 8 maidens, and picked up 4 wickets. How on earth could one come up with such bowling figures in an ODI.

Only one cricketer in the history of Test cricket has this record to his name. Lawrence Rowe, the West Indian batsman scored 214 in the first innings and 100 not-out in the 2nd innings against New Zealand at Kingston, Jamaica in 1971-72. Only Yasir Hameed from Pakistan in 2003 managed to score centuries in each innings against Bangladesh. But a double century and a century, this record is yet to be broken.

Sydney Barnes of England holds the prestigious record of picking up most wickets in a single series. He picked up 49 wickets in 4 Tests against South Africa in 1913-14. This record has lasted for more than 100 years now.

He went on to beat Allan Border’s record of 153 consecutive Tests. Do you think any current player might be able to break Sir Alastair Cook’s record? We don’t think so!

#1 Shortest completed Test match

The Test match between Australia and South Africa lasted for 5 hours 53 minutes. This is the shortest duration for any completed Test. South Africa batted first and were bowled out for 36. Australia scored 153 in their innings, which remains the smallest ever aggregate by a side in a victory.
