T20 World Cup 2021 is slated to begin in a month’s time. Most of the nations have picked their initial squads. All the teams can make changes to the squad till 10th October. But the look of all squads is more or less finalized. The squad announcements have created a lot of buzz. There have been many surprising omissions that have drawn flak across cricketing circles, lets see Cricketers Who Were Not Picked For T20 World Cup.
Cricketers Who Were Not Picked For T20 World Cup:
#6 Chris Morris
Chris Morris is one of the most important T20I players in world cricket currently. He brings in a lot of value to all the teams he represents. Morris in 2021 became the costliest player ever brought in IPL Auctions. But the same cant be said about Morris in his National Colour, His omission raised a lot of eyebrows. Cricket South Africa reacted to Morris’ omission saying he isn’t available to play for South Africa. But it didn’t cut ice with anyone.
#5 Shoaib Malik
Shoaib Malik is a cricketing veteran. He made his debut in the year 1999. Malik is still as fit as anyone in Pakistan cricket. He is a T20 freelancer who plays a handy role both with the bat and the ball. Malik has played 116 T20Is for Pakistan. It would have been fair had Malik been given a final shot at an ICC tournament.
#4 Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal is widely regarded as one of the wiliest spinners in world cricket. He came into his own in 2017. Chahal remained India’s number 1 spinner for over 4 years. But his decline in form has been rapid. His ineffectiveness has cost him a spot in the World Cup squad. Chahal’s exclusion didn’t go down well with many cricketing experts who thought he deserved a chance in the squad.
#3 Faf du Plessis
Faf Du Plessis is one of the best players of the modern generation. He carried the burden of the South African team entirely on his shoulder for a number of years. Faf’s exit from the South African setup has been quite unceremonious. A player of his calibre and class sure deserved a place in the squad. But CSA has thought otherwise.
#2 Imran Tahir
Imran Tahir is arguably one of the greatest T20I spinners of all time. His commitment to the team’s cause has always inspired fellow cricketers. Tahir’s numbers are quite stunning too. He has played a total of 38 T20Is for South Africa picking 63 wickets at an average of 15 and at a strike rate of 13.4. Tahir has played 324 T20Is in total picking up whopping 410 wickets. But sadly he hasn’t been picked for the World Cup.
#1 Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan was one of the most notable omissions from India’s T20 World Cup squad. Dhawan had reinvented himself as a T20I opener in the last couple of seasons. He married consistency with aggression. Dhawan’s strike rate increased to 140+ while he averaged more than 40 consistently. But owing to India’s packed top-order, Dhawan couldn’t force his way through.
