1. Rishabh Pant:
He was widely believed to be the heir successor to MS Dhoni’s throne. His fearless game, his six-hitting ability, his match-winning traits were qualities that drove this comparison. To his credit, Pant has performed at the highest level too with centuries in Test cricket at England and Australia, he proved that he is no flash in the pan.
But the problem with Pant at times is he becomes too excited with his game and always feels the need to prove that he is well and truly Dhoni’s replacement. That is the reason why he has still not been able to nail that wicket-keeper role.
2. KL Rahul
The latest contender to join the bandwagon of wicketkeepers in India, Rahul is one name who has made rapid strides towards cementing his name as India’s wicketkeeper in limited-overs.
His class combined with newfound consistency has worked in his favor. Whether he would be able to translate this form to the red ba format and nail that wicketkeeper spot is still something which we have to wait and watch.
3. Sanju Samson
Of all the players on the list, he is one talent whom everyone wants to see. He is a potential India player, this is a fact that has been long established.
But thanks to his inconsistent form over some time, he often finds himself in the fringes or at times plays one odd game here and there. This isn’t doing justice to the talent which he possesses. It is time he realizes this and makes a case for himself as India’s next big wicket keeping superstar.
4. Ishan Kishan
He hails from Jharkhand too, is this any coincidence? This dasher who plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL has time and again showed that he has what it takes to play for the Indian Team. If he could curb his instincts a little and prove to be a consistent match-winner for his team both in IPL and in domestic cricket, the chance to play for India will well and truly arrive.
5. Srikar Bharat
This Andhra Pradesh wicketkeeper has proven himself time and again in the longer format of the game in the Ranji trophy. He was the first wicketkeeping batsman to score a triple century in the Ranji trophy. He is someone who should surely be looked at since he is sound technically both in front and behind the wickets.
Special mentions:
Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel, both these wicketkeepers have been around for quite a while, since age is not on their side, it may prove difficult for them to make a comeback into the team
