5 Pacers Who Made Their Debut Owing To IPL But Failed Soon

The Indian Premier League was introduced with the aim to develop and promote Indian talent. In its 14 years of existence up until now, the league has beautifully served its purpose. The IPL has unearthed many quality gems over the years. Here are 5 Pacers Who Made Their Debut Owing To IPL But Failed Soon

Indian cricket was blessed with quality spinners up until then, it is owing to the IPL that newer raw fast bowling talents were spotted. Many of the fast bowlers impressed in the IPL. They soon went on to make their India debut but only a few could sustain. There were many bowlers who lost their way post this huge leap.

5 Pacers Who Made Their Debut Owing To IPL But Failed Soon

#5 Sudeep Tyagi

Sudeep Tyagi plied trades for CSK in the early years. Tyagi was a renowned force in the domestic circuit back then. He was tall, hit the deck hard, and extracted seam movement off the pitch. Tyagi picked up 5 wickets in the 2009 season that was held in South Africa. He was picked on the basis of his talent but he couldn’t deliver on the promise. Tyagi hardly played a few games for the country. He later failed in the domestic arena too.

#4 Barinder Sran

Barinder Sran impressed in the 2015 IPL season. He was picked for the Australian tour in the ODIs. Sran had a mediocre series down under. He had a wonderful IPL 2016 wherein he was one of the main reasons why SRH won the cup. Sran was again picked for the Zimbabwe tour but he failed to grab his chance in that series. He has been relegated to the sidelines ever since.

#3 Parvinder Awana

Parvinder Awana had two significant IPL seasons in 2012 and 2013. He collectively picked 32 wickets across both these seasons. Awana soon went on to make his international debut. But Awana looked completely out of depth playing for the country. The leap from IPL to international cricket seemed a bridge too far for him.

#2 Sreenath Aravind

Sreenath Aravind burst onto the scene when he picked 21 wickets in the 2011 IPL. Aravind was RCB’s go-to bowler. His wicket-taking ability helped RCB reach the finals that particular season.

He couldn’t sustain the momentum though. But Arvind surprised everyone and made an IPL comeback in 2016. He picked up 11 wickets that season and coincidentally RCB again made the finals that year. But Aravind got just a single game to play in the India colours. He is now coaching the Karnataka team.

#1 Manpreet Gony

Manpreet Gony is arguably the most popular name on this list. The tall fast bowler drew a lot of attention in the inaugural IPL season. He used his long handle to good effect as well in a couple of games. Gony broke through national selection. He was soon selected for the Indian team. But Gony couldn’t really make use of the opportunity. He was relegated to the sidelines soon after.
