#5 West Indies vs Bangladesh, Chattogram, 2021 – 395/7

Kyle Mayers made a fantastic debut for West Indies as he scored an outstanding double century in the 4th innings which helped the West Indies team chase down a mammoth score of 395. It is the highest successful run chase in Asia eclipsing India’s 387 against England in Chennai in 2008. The West Indies were down and out at 59-3 in the 4th innings. But Mayers didn’t give up and his unbeaten double century helped them notch a memorable win.

#4 Australia vs England, Leeds, 1948 – 404/3

This run chase record has stood the test of time. It has been more than 70 years but only a few teams have been able to breach 400 in the final innings. Australia chased down this total thanks to their greatest ever batsman, Sir Don Bradman. He scored an unbeaten 173 as the tourists chased down this mammoth total. Australia went 3-0 up to win the Ashes at Headingly. Bradman and Arthur Morris (182) put on a partnership of 301 for the second wicket as Australia coasted towards the finishing line and lost just 3 wickets in the process.

#3 India vs West Indies, Port of Spain, 1976 – 406/4

Not many had given India a chance to overhaul a score of 406. But India surprised everyone when they chased down this big score in 1976 at Port of Spain. The win was orchestrated by two of India’s finest batsmen, Sunil Gavaskar (102) and Gundappa Vishwanath (112) who scored fabulous centuries. This run chase record stood tall for 27 years until it was broken 27 years later.

#2 South Africa vs Australia, Perth, 2008 – 414/4

South Africa registered a come from behind win against Australia at WACA, Perth in 2008. The South African team put on a collective batting display to overhaul the target set by Aussies. Captain Graeme Smith led from the front by securing a fine century. He was ably supported by Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, and JP Duminy.

#1 West Indies vs Australia, St John’s, 2003 – 418/7

Australia were leading 3-0 heading into the final Test match. A whitewash seemed a formality for the Australians. But the West Indies team had other plans. Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul joined forces to pull off the greatest heist in Test history. The duo scored centuries while Brian Lara scored an eye-catching 60. The West Indies’ lower-order hung in there to snatch victory. It has been 18 years and this record is yet to be broken.
