Toss and Early Breakthroughs
Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bowl first. The New Zealand bowlers made the most of the new ball conditions, reducing England to 44/5 inside the first 11 overs. Just like the first two ODIs, England’s top order failed again — losing five wickets with only 33 and 81 runs on the board respectively in previous matches.
England’s Middle-Order Resistance
Sam Curran and Jos Buttler tried to stabilize the innings, adding a 53-run partnership off 68 balls. However, both were dismissed in quick succession, leaving England reeling at 102/7. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton then launched a counterattack, adding 58 runs off 50 balls. Overton brought up his maiden ODI fifty with a powerful display, scoring 68 off 62 balls with 10 fours and two sixes.
The lower order added 62 more runs for the final two wickets, helping England reach 222 in 40.2 overs. Blair Tickner was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4/64, while Jacob Duffy chipped in with three wickets.

New Zealand’s Chase – A Tough Battle
In reply, New Zealand began well as Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra put together 78 runs in 13 overs. However, both fell in quick succession, sparking a mini-collapse. Daryl Mitchell scored a steady 44 off 68 balls, but the middle order faltered, and the hosts were reduced to 147/5 in the 29th over.
Lower-Order Heroics Seal Victory
Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell added a crucial 41-run stand to bring New Zealand closer to the target. Yet, from 188/5, they slipped to 196/8, allowing England to sense a comeback. In the end, Zakary Foulkes and Blair Tickner held their nerves, adding an unbeaten 30-run partnership to guide the Black Caps home with two wickets in hand and 32 balls to spare.
Top Batting Performance – Jamie Overton
Jamie Overton played a brave and aggressive innings, scoring 68 runs off 62 balls at a strike rate of 109.68. His attacking intent helped England reach a respectable total after being in deep trouble at 97/6.

Best Bowling Spell – Blair Tickner
Blair Tickner once again proved to be the difference-maker. He exploited the conditions beautifully, swinging the ball both ways and troubling the England batters. Tickner ended with figures of 4/64 in his 10 overs and was later named Player of the Match — his second consecutive award of the series.
