With international cricket coming back on track, many countries are announcing the much-awaited bilateral series. One such is England which will tour the Netherlands for One Day Internationals while its Test team competes against Newzealand at home. Here we talk about England Squad For Netherlands Tour.
The England and Wales Cricket Board has named a 14-man team for their three-match One-Day International series against the Netherlands, which begins on June 17. Few players were available for selection because the other team would be facing New Zealand in the home test series. Eoin Morgan will be leading the squad.
England’s squad for the three ODIs:
Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, David Payne, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, David Willey, Luke Wood
Luke Wood of Lancashire County and David Payne of Gloucestershire County, both uncapped, have been selected for the team. Payne was included in the ODI squad against Pakistan last summer, but this is Wood’s first call-up to the senior team. Sam Curran of Northampton will return to play after a long layoff due to injury.
Morgan, together with Rob Key and Matthew Mott, the new white-ball head coach, was part of the selection panel for the squad, and England has chosen the strongest team available for the series rather than experimenting. They’ve limited the squad to 14 players, ostensibly to prevent having to drag players away from their T20 Blast obligations.
The new white ball coach, Matthew Mott looked excited about his first tour as he said, “I’m very excited to be coaching a strong squad for my first series in charge,” Mott said. “We have tremendous depth with a blend of youth and experience. We want to continue to play in an expressive style and let our players showcase their skills and firepower.
He also talked about how the team had been busy with the Test and T20 cricket and did not have many ODI games scheduled to play. “The ODI side has had limited opportunities and last played in July. However, with about 18 months to the next ICC 50-over World Cup in India, our preparation will start ramping up with nine matches over the summer and a busy winter ahead against strong opponents.”
It is not the first time that England has played two sides playing different formats. Last year, while touring England, India had applied the same method and were playing two teams simultaneously, one in England and the other in Srilanka.
The Netherlands who are playing West Indies currently has not yet announced their squad. They will look onto to give good competition to the tourists as they play at home.
