The West Indies Cricket Board on Sunday announced a 13-member ODI squad against India. The tour will start on July 22 where the two teams will play 3-match One Day International and 5-match T20 International series.

Senior all-rounder Jason Holder has been brought back by West Indies for the forthcoming ODIs against India at home. Holder, a player for West Indies across all formats, missed the team’s demoralizing 3-0 loss to Bangladesh in the just-finished home series.

Romario Shepherd, an all-arounder, and Anderson Phillip, a pacer, were left off the team that competed against Bangladesh for the India series. Despite playing in all three games, Shepherd only bowled a total of 10 overs and failed to pick up a wicket.

Gudakesh Motie, a left-arm spinner who is 27 years old and made his debut in the Bangladesh series and ended up being one of the few bright spots for the home team with six wickets, has kept his place.

West Indies chief selector Desmond Haynes said, “As we all know Jason is one of the leading all-round cricketers in the world and we’re happy to have him back in the team. He will be refreshed, re-energized and ready to go and we can expect to see his brilliance on the field as well as meaningful contributions off the field as well.”

“We had a very challenging three matches against Bangladesh in Guyana so we will be looking to rebound when we face India in the conditions in Trinidad. We have seen some growth among some players, but overall we need to regroup and play better against the Indians,” Haynes continued.

The ODI squad is as follows:

Nicholas Pooran (C), Shai Hope (vc), Shamarh Brooks, Keacy Carty, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Jayden Seales

The ODIs between West Indies and India will begin the white-ball series on July 22, 24, and 27 at Trinidad.
