For his poor bowling in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday in New Delhi, the Indian speedster Khaleel Ahmad got brutally trolled by fans. The hosts lost their first-ever T20I against the Tigers and Rohit Sharma-led Indian team was beaten in every department of the game.
India defending a total of 148 were looking good for a win, with Bangladesh needing 22 runs off the final two overs before Ahmed’s final over, the penultimate of the match. After the pacer from Rajasthan was dispatched to all parts of the ground, he was lambasted on social media by the troll army and the Twitter timelines were inundated with his memes.
Khaleel Ahmed’s 18th over, bizarre DRS decisions and a dropped catch
The turning point of the match was when Krunal Pandya dropped a catch of Mushafiqur Rahim, who was on 38 then, in the 18th over of the match.
Bangladesh required 22 runs in 12 balls in the last two overs, with the pitch not perfect for batting. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma brought Khaleel Ahmed back into the attack to bowl the penultimate over of the match.
In his first two deliveries, he conceded only two runs, but after that, Mushfiqur Rahim hit four consecutive boundaries in the remaining deliveries to put Bangladesh on the top. By the time Khaleel finished his over, the Tigers needed just four runs to win.
Ultimately, Bangladesh skipper Mahmuddullah hit a boundary off Shivam Dube’s third ball to take the visitor’s home. Rahim scored an unbeaten 60 to emerge as the man of the match. During the chase, Soumya Sarkar (39 runs in 35 balls) and Mahmuddullah (60 runs in 43 balls) also made valuable contributions with the bat.
Fans went on to slam Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed on Twitter after the match for his four overs, with figures of 1/37.
