The Hundred: Deandra Dottin shines as Manchester Originals beat Welsh Fire

A splendid all-around performance from former West Indies star Deandra Dottin helped Manchester Originals to a delightful 11-run victory against Welsh Fire in The Hundred Women’s competition at Emirates Old Trafford.

Dottin’s 67 off 37 balls was the factor behind Originals total of 156 for two. But, in a game between two teams who had lost their opening games, Fire were on track for triumph as Dottin’s fellow Hayley Matthews scored an equally amazing 69 off 41 at the top of the order and shared 110 in 72 balls with fellow opener Tammy Beaumont.

However, Sophie Ecclestone dismissed Matthews before Dottin struck twice in as many balls with her trapping medium pacers, leaving the Fire to score 19 runs in last 5 balls, which they unable to score and lost the game by 11 runs.

The Hundred: Manchester Originals Vs Welsh Fire Match Highlights:

After accepting to bat first, Manchester started slow and lost the first wicket early too, with Lizelle Lee returned to pavilion after scoring just 3.

Then came Dottin on crease and changed the whole scenario, she smashed boundaries all around the ground and in no time completed her half-century.

Sophie Ecclestone, who joined Dottin after Lamb” (35) dismissal also played a destructive knock of unbeaten 36 off just 18, while Dottin’s unbeaten 67 off 37 helped her side post 156 in 100 balls.

Chasing a target of 157, Welsh Fire openers were on fire and looking all set towards victory when they reached 110 in 71 balls.

That made them to just score more 47 in 29 to claim their first victory in The Hundred Women’s Competition.

However, on the 72nd ball of their innings, Hayley Mathews gone after scoring the most runs among both team (69), then they lost two more wickets in the span of 13 runs.

The skipper Tammy Beaumont remained on crease till last, but her unbeaten 45 was not enough to help her side earn 2 points as they lose the game by 11 runs.

Deandra Dottin was honoured with the player of the match award for her outstanding performance both with bat and ball. She scored 67 off 37 with bat and later took two crucial wickets at the right time to hand her side their first win in the tournament.
