Surya Kumar Yadav became the highest run-scorer: in the first T20I against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
Surya Kumar Yadav again came to India’s rescue as India lost the big wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early in the chase of 108. But, SKY went after the bowlers from the start and a style that is now become synonymous for him.
Surya Kumar Yadav continued his incredible run in T20Is in 2022, scoring over 700 runs in the format. His tally of runs in T20Is in 2022 is a record for an Indian batter with Surya Kumar going past Shikhar Dhawan’s 689 runs in 2018 in the format.
What makes his record even more outrageous
Is the fact that Yadav has scored these runs at a strike rate of more than 180 and an average more of than 40.?
Yadav, who came in at No.4 in the first T20I against South Africa with India trailing 17/2 in the seventh over, hit two sixes off his first three balls to give the Indian innings a boost after a slow start.
As India reached the target with more than three overs to spare but he remained unbeaten on 50 off 33 balls. Yadav also surpassed Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan for the most sixes in a calendar year in T20Is with the two early in the innings. In 2021, Rizwan set a new record with 42 sixes, while Martin Guptill also hit 41 sixes.
Yadav has already taken his tally of sixes to 45 in 2022, a record in all T20Is, with three more months to widen the gap with Rizwan. Although, Rizwan took 26 innings to make 42 sixes but Surya Kumar has broken the record in less.
