Tillakaratne Dilshan smashes century as Sri Lanka Legends beat Australia

Sri Lanka Legends easily trounced Australia in the opening match of their Road Safety Series campaign on September 11. Here in this article, we look at Sri Lanka Legends Vs Australia Legends match highlights in detail.

After putting a mammoth total of 218 on board, courtesy of the legendary Sri Lankan batter Tillakaratne Dilshan’s century knock and Dilshan Munaweera’s uneaten 95. Sri Lanka Legends’ bowlers bowled out Australia Legends for 180 to hand their side a victory in their first match of the campaign.

Opted to bat, Sri Lankan openers quickly took control of the game, launching a combined total of 24 boundaries and 6 sixes. While Dilshan went on to hit 107 off 56 balls at a staggering strike rate of 191.07, his batting partner Dilshan Munaweera only managed 95* off 63 balls, falling strangely short of a century.

Despite the likes of Brett Lee and Shane Watson were present in the Australia Legends side, Sri Lankan openers not even mercy on them and clinched runs from their overs at over 10 rpo. Only Dirk Nanness recorded decent numbers, going 4-29-0.

Chasing a mammoth target of 219, Australia started the chase journey on a flying note with both of their openers put 75 on board before the skipper Shane Watson departed on the final ball of the seventh over, but as soon as the skipper departs the team witnessed sudden collapse from 75/1, the Legends of Australia went down to 151/7. And felt 39 runs short of the target to lost their game of the tournament.

Leg spinner Jeevan Mendis caused the most damage to the top order, removing both openers on the day, while Nuwan Kulasekara (4) took the most number of wickets for the Sri Lanka Legends.

Tillakaratne Dilshan was awarded with the player of the match honour for his impressive century knock at the strike rate of 191.07.

With the win, Sri Lanka Legends now sitting at second spot just behind India Legends on the points table in an 8-team Road Safety awareness tournament.
