Where RR completely dominated CSK in their pursuit of a respectable score and successfully clinched a position in the playoffs. While everything was going on, CSK was handed their 10th loss of the competition. Here we have an overview of RR vs CSK Match Highlights.
Despite having won the coin toss, CSK elected to bat first and got off to a slow start to their innings, as they lost the opening batter, Ruturaj Gaikwad for two runs to Trent Boult. Devon Conway, the batsman who came up next, was unable to maintain the momentum and ended up falling behind for 16 (14) against R Ashwin. It seemed Moeen Ali was quite aggressive with the bat, as he punished the ball by hitting it hard in all-round the park.
Ali did not seem to have a partner to help his effort, as both N Jagadeesan (1 run) and Ambati Rayudu (3 runs) lost their wickets to Obed McCoy and Y Chahal, respectively. It was obvious that Ali needed a partner to support his knock. Moeen, however, was put in a stand with MS Dhoni, the team’s captain, which resulted in 51 runs being scored for the wicket. While Chahal dismissed Dhoni for 26 or 28 runs.
However, Moeen Ali hit 93 (57) with a stunning knock that included 13 fours and three sixes for a strike rate of 163.16. During his time with the IPL, this was Ali’s best score. After suffering six wickets in 20 overs, RR was given a target of 151 thanks to the strong innings played by Moeen.
The run chase for RR got off to a sluggish start as their opening batsman, Jos Buttler, was bowled by Simarjeet Singh for only 2 runs. This resulted in the loss of the good cushion. In addition, lost skipper Sanju Samson when he was given a 15/20 by Santner.
Devdutt Padikkal too was unable to keep the momentum going and ended up giving up his wicket for just 3 runs. On the other side, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been performing at a high level and played a crucial knock. However, he did not have a partner when one was desperately required.
In spite of this, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin made key stands for RR as they were chasing the target. During this time, Prashant Solanki achieved a significant victory by removing Jaiswal from the game for 59 runs off of 44 balls. In turn, Ashwin with a match-winning knock to score 40 runs, which includes two fours and three sixes.
In their game versus CSK, RR needed to pursue the good target with two balls left in spare in order to secure a spot in the IPL 2022 Playoffs. In the meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals will play the Gujarat Titans, a new franchise that is currently leading the standings, in the first Qualifier 1.
