Pakistan’s cricket structure and priorities need to Change: Misbah-ul-Haq

Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan‘s former captain and head coach, has stated that replacing the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will have no effect on the country’s sport. On the Geo News channel, Misbah remarked, “We need to modify the way we operate our cricket organization and adjust our objectives.” He said that previous Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to abolish departmental cricket and their involvement in sports had done nothing to help Pakistan cricket or any other sport. “It’s been three years since departments or institutions have had any role in cricket or other sports, and what have we accomplished so far?” he wondered. Here in this article, we look at Misbah-ul-Haq on Pakistan’s cricket structure.

Misbah saw that departments and entities that had previously invested money in cricket were now spending it elsewhere. “They formed provincial association teams in domestic cricket, but that has only resulted in administrative problems,” Misbah said. He added that while there was nothing wrong with the PCB experimenting with a new domestic cricket structure, the old system of departmental cricket should have been phased out only after the new system had begun to pay dividends. Misbah was quoted as saying that a change of face in the cricket board would not make a difference.

“I think that whoever is the chairman, he should have a vision about how to run our cricket. No matter who is the chairman or whether there are changes in the board, the system should not change and cricket should carry on.”

Misbah-ul-Haq is Pakistan’s most successful Test captain, having surpassed Imran Khan‘s 13 victories. Misbah’s captaincy has always been dogged by controversy, whether it was the loss of the 2014 Asia Cup final or the first two ODIs against Australia in the UAE. Misbah even left out the third game against Australia to rest and reflect on his future plans. When he led Pakistan to a 2-0 Test series triumph over Australia and a 1-1 Test series tie with New Zealand, he addressed all the questions.

Despite the fact that Pakistan lost the ODI series to New Zealand under his leadership, the selectors trusted him and appointed him as the 2015 World Cup captain. Misbah made the decision to retire after the mega-event as soon as the roster was named.

Misbah-ul-farewell Haq’s series was historic for Pakistan, as they won their first-ever Test series in the Caribbean. The series came to a spectacular conclusion, with the visitors giving their beloved skipper the perfect send-off from international cricket. Despite his retirement from international cricket, Misbah continues to play first-class cricket and will participate in T20 leagues such as the PSL and BPL, where he will lead the respective clubs.
