India won the match!!! Everything went smoothly for them right from the toss. Team India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to field. Bowlers gave their best to pick wickets and restrict the competing team which reached an average score. Only five bowlers were enough as they all contributed to their full extent. Out of these five, the most memorable performance was that of Navdeep Saini.
Navdeep, the Indian fast bowler, bowled a sharp yorker to get rid of Sri Lanka opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka.
On the fourth delivery of the eight over, Saini’s (147.5 kmph) delivery was too fast for the left-handed batsmen. Gunathilaka had no time to react as his stumps were uprooted when attempted to play that delivery.
In the second T20I of Sri Lanka’s tour of India in Indore, the opening batsmen, Avinshka Fernando and Danushka Gunathilaka, with the help of three fours, contributed (22) and 20(21), respectively.
It was being expected that Danush Gunathilaka would score quickly as it was the powerplay.
Saini came in as a change bowler in the third over and picked up his first wicket in his second over. Check out the broadcasted video.
Navdeep Saini is 26 years old. He is from Haryana’s Karnal. He has the capacity to bowl at 150 kmph.
Initially, Navdeep Saini played cricket with a tennis ball in his hometown to earn a mere Rs 200 per match. It wasn’t until 2013 that he started to play with a leather ball.
Navdeep considers himself lucky to have been spotted by former India opener Gautam Gambhir during a net session, leading to a major change in his career. Saini is grateful to Gambhir for noticing his potential and bringing it to the notice of local selectors.
