MS Dhoni, once a key player of the Indian cricket team, took a break from cricket after the end of India’s World Cup campaign following its loss in the semi-final to New Zealand in July 2019. MS Dhoni’s future in cricket has been a subject of discussion for quite some time now.
Ravi Shastri, the cricket coach of the Indian cricket team, said that MS Dhoni may soon end his ODI career. In spite of that, the former captain of the Indian cricket team will still be in contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup that will be held in October in Australia. The coach said that he would initiate a conversation with the former captain of the Indian team, which will be kept between them only. Shastri added that after Dhoni ended his career in Tests, he may bid goodbye to ODIs too.
Shastri said that people must respect Dhoni as he is a player who represented India in all the formats of the game for a while. The Team India coach also added that to make himself available for selection in the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia, MS Dhoni must perform well in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The only format Dhoni will want to play at his age is T20, which means he has to start playing to get back into the habit of playing when features in IPL and check how his body reacts, added Shastri.
Because of his poor form and batting style, Dhoni often faced criticism in the recent past.
These days, his impending retirement has been the most talked about topic in the cricket world. Dhoni last played a T20I in February 2019 for India against Australia in Bengaluru.
