Bowlers have started making a telling impact this season. The third week witnessed many quality spells. The likes of Umran Malik and Lockie Ferguson kept upping the pace. They have gone on to make their teams win. Bowlers are slowly coming into their own in IPL 2022.
We look at the Top 10 Bowlers at the End of Week Three:
#10 Mohammad Shami (8)
It was Mohammad Shami who set the tone for Gujarat Titans in the very first game. His opening burst against LSG was brilliant. Shami has pocketed 8 wickets in 6 games averaging 22.75 with the ball. His economy rate is 7.58 while his strike rate has remained steady at 18.
#9 Umran Malik (9)
He is the latest pace bowling sensation the IPL has uncovered. Umran Malik has gone from strength to strength, especially this week. He has scalped 9 wickets in 6 games at an average of 22.33. His economy rate of 9.13 is on the higher side but his strike rate of 14.66 is super impressive.
#8 Rahul Chahar (9)
He has been Punjab’s go-to bowler this season. Rahul Chahar has 9 wickets in his kitty already. He is the only Punjab bowler who has managed to keep the batsmen in check. Chahar averages 19.22 with the ball. He is conceding runs at just 7.20 per over. His strike rate is 16.00.
#7 Dwayne Bravo (10)
The IPL’s highest wicket-taker, Dwayne Bravo is amongst the wickets again this season. He has 10 wickets in 6 games. Bravo who primarily bowls in the latter stages of the game has conceded runs at just 8.35 per over. His average is 18.10 and strikes at every 13 balls.
#6 Umesh Yadav (10)
KKR’s new-ball specialist, Umesh Yadav was running away with the purple cap in the first few games. But he has had a couple of indifferent matches lately. Umesh has 10 wickets in 6 matches averaging 16.30 with the ball. He has conceded runs at just 6.79 (best among the top 10 wicket-takers) per over, striking every 14.40 balls.
#5 Wanindu Hasaranga (11)
He has been a prized acquisition for RCB this season. Wanindu Hasaranga has silenced all his critics with his performances. He played a key role in RCB’s win over DC. Hasaranga has 11 wickets in 6 games wherein he has conceded runs at 8.47 per over. His average is 17.72 with a strike rate of 12.54.
#4 Avesh Khan (11)
He has already proved to everyone that he isn’t a one-season wonder. Khan has picked 11 wickets in 6 games. His economy rate of 8.29 is on the higher side. He averages 17.09 with the ball while his strike rate of 12.36 is superb.
#3 Kuldeep Yadav (11)
Delhi Capitals has brought the best of Kuldeep Yadav. He has picked 11 wickets in 6 games. Yadav averages 14.72 with the ball at an economy rate of 8.23. His strike rate of 10.72 is outstanding (second-best among top 10 wicket-takers).
#2 T. Natarajan (12)
Nobody had expected T. Natarajan will be up there among the highest wicket-takers. He has picked 12 wickets in 6 games. Natarajan averages 17.33 with the ball. He concedes runs at 8.66 per over. But it is his strike rate of 12 that stands out.
