Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop On Virat Kohli’s Dismissal has stated he is not been able to score consistently in the IPL this season, and it is a matter of concern because he is being exposed to different types of bowlers.
Kohli, who is known as “King Kohli,” has failed to live up to his moniker this season, scoring only 216 runs in 11 innings for RCB, with a top score of 58 and a strike rate of just 111.09 in the 15th edition of the Indian Premiere League.
Everyone felt he was back in form after his 58 against the table-topping Gujarat Titans in the 43rd match of IPL 2022. But Kohli’s technique hitches continued in Wednesday’s match as well when he was bowled out for 30 from 33 balls by Moeen Ali, and Bishop expressed concern over Kohli’s struggles against spin, particularly off-spin.
“For a while, for 10 or 15 runs, he wasn’t even going at a run-a-ball, or he was just going at a run-a-ball,” Bishop said on Espncricinfo ‘T20 Time Out’.
“He didn’t get ahead, and there wasn’t much intent. He hit one (six) over extra-cover off the seamer, and that was when he just went ahead to a run-a-ball and then he came back.
Kohli’s struggles against spin are well-known, but Bishop believes there is a more serious issue with the star batter’s recent dismissals.
“This is something we’ve been seeing with Virat, not just this season. Even last season, I remember, and even sometimes internationally, he’ll fly out – he didn’t fly out tonight – and then he’ll slow down again. So, I’m concerned.” Overall, Kohli played 16 dot balls against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
RCB will play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8, 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
